Kohl's Opens 45 Stores Built to LEED Standards
Menomonee Falls, Wis. Kohl's Corp. on Wednesday celebrated the opening of 47 stores, giving it a total of 1,000 locations nationwide. Of the 47 new stores, 45 are built according to LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) standards. The stores are pre-certified at the silver level from the U.S. Green Building Council.
Among the stores opening are Kohl's first locations in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach area, as well as the first store in Montana, which marks the company’s 48th state. In total, the retailer will open 75 stores in 2008, giving it 1,004 stores in 48 states by the end of November. In 2009, Kohl's plans to open approximately 50 new stores and remodel 60 locations, an increase from 36 remodeled stores in 2008.
