Personalization is becoming a big part of men’s wear, and it is showing up in a major way in retail. JCPenney has an online boutique on their Web site (pictured) that allows customers to customize their jeans, shirts and trousers for work, so that those pieces fit exactly as they are supposed to without alteration. Each garment is individually made, and takes approximately four weeks to deliver after placing an order online.
Lands’ End, which is owned by Sears Holdings, offers a similar service. Men can customize their own jeans, shirts, dress pants and chinos to their liking. The process takes three steps: customers simply have to input the fabric they want, the features they desire (such as pockets, pleats, collars or cuffs) and finally their measurements and the sort of fit they desire.
