First Look: Check out Primark's new store in Brooklyn
Primark has dropped anchor in Brooklyn.
The global, value-priced fashion, accessories and home goods retailer has opened a three-level store at City Point, a mixed-use development in Brooklyn, N.Y. The 49,000-sq.-ft. outpost is Primark's 16th store in the United States. The retailer, which is owned by Associated British Foods, has set a goal of 60 U.S. stores by 2026.
The Brooklyn store follows the opening of two additional Primark locations in the New York metro area this holiday season, including a 44,290-sq.-ft. store at Roosevelt Field in Garden City (on Long Island). It also opened a store on Jamaica Avenue in Queens.
Primark at City Point is the company’s 416th store (across 14 countries). It also is one of ten new U.S. Primark stores set to open next year, nearly doubling its selling space in the country.
Primark stores sell a wide variety of clothing for women, men, and kids, ranging from outerwear to workout leggings, as well as beauty, homeware and accessories.
All the merchandise (except to licensed products) is sold under its own label.
"New Yorkers have been experiencing 'Primania' more than ever this season and we are so excited to add the City Point community to our growing family here in the US," said Kevin Tulip, president, Primark US. "The customer reaction to our four other NY-metro stores has shown that there is an overwhelming desire for Primark's offering and price leadership and this location will allow us to bring that to an influential group of shoppers in Brooklyn and one subway stop away in Manhattan."
Founded in Ireland in 1969 under the Penneys brand, Primark has set a goal of 530 stores by the end of 2026, including upcoming new markets of Romania and Slovakia.
Primark is working to making more sustainable products everyone can afford, reducing its impact on the planet and improving the lives of workers.
The company has also made a series of public commitments it plans to work towards and report on progress each year. These include making all its clothes from recycled or more sustainably sourced materials, ensuring clothing is recyclable by design, halving carbon emissions across the value chain and pursuing a living wage for workers in the supply chain.
