eBay is helping automotive shoppers on its platform feel confident.
eBay is making a new effort to boost the confidence of shoppers on its automotive marketplace.
eBay Motors, which was launched s a separate mobile app in December 2019, is introducing eBay Guaranteed Fit. This new program provides a green “Fits” compatibility checkmark on select parts and accessories listings to help customers determine whether the part will fit their specific vehicle.
To take advantage of Guaranteed Fit, shoppers enter their vehicle year, make, model, trim and engine information, or select the vehicle saved in their “My Garage” profile to search for new and used parts. eBay Motors then verifies that the vehicle details match the part compatibility information within the listing.
When there is a match, fit is confirmed with a green “Fits” checkmark on the listing. If the part or accessory does not fit the buyer’s vehicle upon arrival, they can return it for free within 30 days for a full refund.
eBay Guaranteed Fit is an additional protection under the eBay money back guarantee, and covers most new and pre-owned items in the parts & accessories category, with more to be added in the coming months. Some exclusions apply, including tires and wheels.
“People are buying and selling parts online like never before, and eBay Guaranteed Fit helps take the guesswork out of the shopping experience,” said Chris Prill, VP of eBay Motors. “Accurate fitment is critical to completing a project, from simple repairs to major modifications. With today’s launch, eBay Motors is empowering shoppers to browse and buy the millions of parts and accessories on the marketplace with that crucial added assurance.”
eBay seeks to inspire trust
The launch of eBay Guaranteed Fit is the latest offering from the e-tailer designed to make shoppers feel confident in their purchases. For example, eBay recently purchased 3PM Shield LLC, a provider of artificial intelligence (AI)-based marketplace compliance solutions.
The company also introduced authenticity guarantee service for trading cards in January 2022, which it has since built upon through a new strategic partnership with PSA (Professional Sports Authenticator), a trading card authentication and grading company.
In addition, eBay has opened the eBay vault, a secured, temperature-controlled facility and digital marketplace for collectors. Once an item is in the eBay vault, ownership transfers from seller to buyer in a matter of seconds, without the need to re-authenticate or ship the item anywhere. Within a few years, the retailer expects the vault to hold up to $3 billion in assets.
In the realm of digital collectibles, eBay purchased NFT marketplace KnownOrigin in June 2022. KnownOrigin's technology and platform is designed to provide artists with a place to create unique, authentic, digital collectibles in the form of NFTs. Other recent NFT ventures launched by eBay include a May 2022 partnership with NHL legend Wayne Gretzky.
Founded in 1995 in San Jose, Calif., eBay Inc. enabled over $87 billion of gross merchandise volume in 2021.
