The nation's second-largest bookstore chain is teaming up with a well-known partner to deliver online purchases the day they are placed.
In September 2023, Books-A-Million began introducing same- and next-day delivery across its 231 locations nationwide, starting in its Southeast and Midwest markets, by leveraging the Walmart white-label GoLocal “delivery-as-a-service” platform.
Now, in time for National Read Across America Day on March 2, Books-A-Million is officially offering same-day delivery supported by Walmart GoLocal at every store. The retailer had already been offering buy online, pickup in store (BOPIS) and free curbside pickup options when it began rolling out online delivery.
How it works
Customers place an order online at booksamillion.com and select the "same-day delivery" option during checkout. The order is then be picked up by a delivery driver and dropped off at the customer's desired location.
Orders placed before 3 p.m. will be delivered same-day, and orders placed after 3 p.m. will be delivered next-day on tens of thousands of products that are in stock in a nearby store, including all top-selling books, toys, games, and collectibles.
"We are excited to offer the convenience and speed of same-day delivery across our entire chain of Books-A-Million stores nationwide," said Pete Zophy, senior VP of e-commerce at Books-A-Million. "Our commitment to providing exceptional service and value is at the forefront of everything we do, and this new offering is just one more way we are delivering on that promise."
Customers who place online orders between Thursday, Feb. 29 – Saturday, March 9, 2024 will receive a $5 off $25 coupon and a free reusable tote.
Walmart GoLocal – a primer
Walmart initially launched its white-label GoLocal “delivery-as-a-service” offering in October 2021. The managed service platform provides nationwide delivery capabilities on a range of products, including those with size and complex requirements, as well as the flexibility to meet varying timelines.
The discount giant built the service on the existing infrastructure supporting the Express Delivery same-day delivery service it rolled out in 2020. This includes drones, autonomous vehicles and market fulfillment centers.
"As a mother and busy professional, reading is an important way for me to unwind and connect with my family. Being able to get books and other items delivered same-day is a game-changer for me and so many families," said Rina Hurst, VP, Walmart GoLocal. "We join Books-A-Million in celebrating National Read Across America Day and are thrilled to continue the story of our partnership by helping them deliver for their customers."
