Amazon is looking to expanding its
grocery reach.
The
online giant plans to open dozens of grocery stores in several major cities across the United States,
The Wall Street Journal reported. The stores would be distinct from Whole Foods Market, with lower price points and broader offerings.
The stores would average about 35,000 sq. ft. and the first location could open in Los Angeles by year-end, the report said.
Amazon is also interested in possible acquisitions to strengthen its supermarket strategy, according to the
Journal, with small regional grocery chains as idea candidates.
